I wanted to read a book which was freely available from Project Gutenberg on my Android using Amazon’s Kindle app. Generally Project Gutenberg provides its eBooks in several different format including a Kindle format.
I tried opening the eBook’s page using my Android phone but when I tried to download it the browser told me that the content was supported.
After a bit of searching on the net I discovered the answer is to copy the eBook file to the kindle directory on my sdcard.
The detailed steps are:
1) Download the .mobi file from Project Gutenberg.
2) Connect your Android device to your PC.
3) Tap at the very top of the screen and drag your finger down. Tap USB Connected and then tap Mount.
4) Copy the .mobi file to the kindle directory on your sdcard.
Well, on the N900 ( Maemo 5 ) we got an App that directly downloads the Gutenberg eBooks and allows me to read it
Hope same App can work / be ported to Android.

N900 is the most open source friendly fone I can find … unfortunately the way Nokia is *supporting* its developers and users of the N900 seems like we are a limited and dying breed gasping for some “Open” sourced oxygen/air/water/food to thrive on. No Symbian for the N900 …. no open source drivers for the N900 … somehow we got Ubuntu / Android 2.2 / MeeGo UX all purely thanks to the amazing Open source Linux community members of awesomeness. Seems like Nokia hates that … and now we should really call it (Microkia or NokiShaft ? or something getting Borged by the Borg
Oh well enough of the ranting

BTW The app’s called MGutenberg ….
Thanks! Worked perfectly for me on my Dell Streak.
